On the 24th of January, our class took part in a drama competition in the Mullingar arts Centre in West Meath. We took part in this competition as part of our Drama and Theatre Class. The play we chose a play by Don Zolidis called “10 Ways to Survive the Zombie Apocalypse”.
We began preparations for this play in late December and we were given our parts soon after. I was given the part of “Granny”, an elderly lady who got eaten by the zombies. Though my part was small, there was a comedic aspect to it and later in the play I was also given the role of a zombie. The cast consisted of 11 people with Eimear Gilroy, Katie Slevin, Diarmuid Ryan and Diarmuid McFadden playing the protagonists of the play. We were avidly practicing our parts prior to the competition and were even doing rehearsals after school.
A week before the competition, we were told to bring in our costumes. Mine consisted of a long blue skirt, a rugged jumper and cardigan, a bloody shirt, a wooden walking stick and a pair of kitten heels. We had two full rehearsals and once we were happy with our performance, we were ready for the competition.
We arrived at Mullingar Arts Center early in order to get into costume and makeup. Once we were finished we went into the audience so that we could watch the other plays. The play we got to see was another play from CCBS, which we had previously watched, called “Check Please”, it was filled with great acting and costumes. Lastly, we took the stage and it went very well with everyone remembering their lines and acting well. After our performance, we were all very cheerful and once we were out of costume we left to go home.
